Economic downturn and the PSSL response

During 2022, the PSSL under the immediate past President Dr Saman Kumara – Neonatologist, initiated the “Save a baby” project to raise donations to respond to urgent needs of neonatal care.

The PSSL notes that, in this downturn, the perinatal care needs to be supported further, as there are gaps in getting the requirements through the existing formalized channels.

In this, the PSSL council under the current President Dr Susie Perera, also believes that as a society we need to support the government in obtaining support in an urgent way to prevent any adverse outcomes.

We intend to closely follow up with the Ministry of Health to ensure that there is no overlap, and selected urgent items can be supplied.
