Capacity building for PHMs on Reflective Writing and Parenting – Polonnaruwa District
A capacity building programme on Reflective Writing and Parenting was conducted by the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka on the 17th of May 2022 in Medirigiriya in the Polonnaruwa District. It was held at the CIC Agri Resort auditorium, with the participation of the President of PSSL Dr. Susie Perera, Secretary Dr. Asiri Hewamalage and Council members Dr. Amila Chhandrasiri, Dr. Harendra Dassanayake and Dr. Prabath Randombage.
The Provincial Director of Health Services of North Central Province Dr. Palitha Bandara who is also a council member of the PSSL, and Regional Director of Health Services Polonnaruwa Dr. Kumarawansa also graced the event. MOMCH Polonnaruwa Dr. Indika and MOH Madirigiriya took a great effort to make this event a success.
The Public Health Midwives attached to the MOH office Medirigiriya participated in this training programme. The RSPHNO Polonnaruwa and the PHNS of the area also participated for this important event. This was a joint venture organized by the Parenting Subcommittee and the Subcommittee on reflective case study writing, of the PSSL.
The session on reflective writing conducted by Dr. Amila Chandrasiri was organized as an interactive session with lecture discussions and group activities. The PHM were given a chance to do an actual reflective writing on a situation experienced by them and present at the end. Presentations by the participants and provision of feedback by the attending experts provided an opportunity for them to understand the concept of reflective writing further. Following the sessions on reflective case study writing, a session was conducted by Dr. Prabath Randombage. The session mainly focused on Parenting and the importance of preparation for parenting. Dr Prabath highlighted the importance of proper parenting and the and its effect on the family and the children.
